    Cross Breeding Beefmasters

A few years ago a Brangus bull got sneaked into a herd of Beefmasters, I can't remember the fellow's name but he was the President of the association at the time. I was told that he later admitted to sneaking the Brangus in, guess everyone had fallen onto the black kick so they let the black...

    Average Cow Longevity ?

We have several cows still producing in their teens. Of course we raise the original American breed-which some like and others are afraid to try. I have eighteen year old cows right raising big fat calves.

    simmental longhorn croos

SSGenetics, No you didn't see any of my cattle go thru the Pulaski sale barn. I too have seen Longhorns go thru there years ago pretty cheap. Longhorn prices are up too. My little bull calves selling as ropers are going for $475 to $560-these are in the 300 lb range. Yes those are some of my...

    simmental longhorn croos

You should get mostly solid colors from your Simmental/Longhorn cross. Should be a good cross and they'll bring as much as the other black or red generic calves or at least they would around here. I have a question for you people who are paying $1600 for your commercial cows. How many calves...

    Black beefmaster/Calf color

Black is not a natural color for the Beefamster breed. It all started with a Brangus bull that got slipped in. The association allowed it and it stayed.

    Bison

A bison hybid is a 50/50 cross. A Beefalo is 3/8 bison, 5/8 bovine (any breed of cattle).

    For you Longhorn folks

Good deep bodied cows. Don't see a thing wrong with em.

    Bison

You need to use a bovine bull on bison cows to get a live calf. The bovine cows will breed to a bison bull but their body tries to reject the fetus and usually the cow and the calf dies before they can carry them full term. The fetus builds up amniotic fluid around the fetus and the cow and...

    Longhorn cross questions

I think most people are afraid of their horns. Maybe I'm wrong but they seem to be.

    Longhorn cross questions

BigRob, I would use a Charolais bull on the LonghornxBeefmaster brood cows for a terminal cross calf. They will grow like tanks and I think some of those heifers would be good mama cows as well. You've already got great mothering ability from your Longhorn and Beefmaster in them. I really don't...

    Longhorn cross questions

The Beefmaster/Longhorn cross makes one heck of a mama cow taht you can breed to any bull you want to. I've used this cross for several years. Almost all have come out solid colored-red or dun or what we call in the Longhorn world Parker brown which is a black cow with brown on the ears, muzzle...

Tell me about longhorn cross cattle

Put a Charolais bull on your Longhorn cows, get yellow calves that will sell for every bit as much as a black calf at least here in our area. I have a friend who has been doing this for years. He sold a bull calf a couple of weeks ago here for $745. His neighbors who were laughing at him stopped...

    Dutch Belted and Gelbvieh Cross???

Check out Buelingo which is a composite breed using Dutch Belted, Limousin and some other beef breeds. Dickinson Cattle Co in Ohio has them. This sounds similar to what you are wanting to breed.

    Beefalo

The breeder close to Lynnville in Giles Co. was Joe Warren. I have not heard what he was breeding last but we bought a Beefalo bull from him many years ago. Ours was Brangus based. His registration papers showed American Bison and Brangus. He was dog gentle and as easy to work as any bull we...

    Aggressive longhorn bull?

Oh yeah, if one of mine gets out people have a fit. They think that all of mine are bulls because they have horns. I didn't know that people are so ignorant when it comes to cattle. I have even tried to explain it this way: if it has four teats it's a cow, if there's a big change purse hanging...

    Jersey Steers for eating

    Angus- Watusi/Longhorn cross

If you are in Brentwood you are about 45-50 minutes north of me. Come straight down 65 south to exit 22 and we are about ten miles away. Give me a shout on a weekend when you want to come down and you are welcome to see what we do down here.

    Aggressive longhorn bull?

We actually run our bulls together when we aren't breeding them. As long as there aren't any cows around they are fine together. They rant and rave for the first day or two and then they are grazing together after a couple of days like old pals.
