    dummy calf article

https://www.canadiancattlemen.ca/livestock/how-to-spot-respiratory-acidosis-in-a-newborn-calf/ Thought this article was informational and might be helpful when someone has a dummy calf. Article says one cause of a dummy calf is respiratory acidosis. Treatment seems to be a resuscitator and an IV.

    FerAppease

FerAppease - https://ferappease.com/ Found this on the internet. Anybody use or tried it? Sounds like a pheromone you can apply around the muzzle. It is inhaled and will reduce the animal's stress level. e.g. weaning, chute work, or an animal that will not load on a trailer

Engine can use either SAE 30 or 10W-30. What is the correct oil for the pump? Think I saw a sticker with 75W-90. When I search 75W-90 it pulls up 75W-90 gear oil with a limited slip additive. Is that the correct oil for a pressure plunger pump?? .... Tried to use the pressure washer today...

cash calves vs beef carcass grid

I am a cow/calf producer. I have thought about reducing the cow herd and I would see the calves all the way to finish. I am near a kill plant. Currently I background the calves and sell at a sale barn. Dairies in the area have a lot of black-hide beef on dairy cross cattle. Is there more...

    PRLR-SLICK cattle

"FDA has determined that intentional genomic alteration of beef cattle does not raise any safety concerns." PRLR-Slick cattle have been gene-edited to add short-hair coat trait aka slick coat. The science is neat, but I'm wondering how practical it is. Some cattle breeds just work better...

    pickup tire recommendations

I am planning to order a pair of Firestone Transforce AT2 LT245/75R16. Firestone have been okay. When the tread gets wore the tires develop bulges, but I guess that is caused by the rough roads. I have run Cooper before. When Cooper Discoverer tires get old the tread separates on me. I was...

    PFAS in the news

Been hearing about PFAS chemicals in the news lately. Sounds like the stuff is everywhere, but it seems ag operations with contaminated ground water have it the worst. I feel bad for Highland Dairy of Clovis, New Mexico, and Stoneridge Farm of Arundel, Maine. PFAS are found in fast food...

    pour-on jug lacing

The 2.5-liter jug came with 2 straps. A 5-liter jug came with 1 strap. Is there a correct way to lace up a pour-on jug? I did some chute work. I use disposable syringes. Figured out I can put scotch tape around the syringes, so the numbers don't wear off before I get done.

I am used to breeding cattle that are a single color - Angus, Limousin, Lincoln Red, and Murray Grey. However, there is one baldy cow; this cow is out of an Angus bull. As you can see in the photo, I have bred her to some things including Murray Grey...
