Today I have to shoot number 5

That was the toughest thing I've had to do in awhile. I did spend the morning and afternoon trying to find someone to butcher her. As I was giving her water and feed I could see she was suffering so I went ahead and did the deed. I'm not doing a cow calf operation anymore, I'm selling them this...

Today I have to shoot number 5

My favorite cow number five has gone down. I got a really nice bull two days ago and I believe when he tried to mount her she must have slipped. I tried to help her up but she just can't do it. I put a strap around her and lifted her but she won't or can't move her back legs. All my angus are...

    Coop 5 ton bins

I have a 4 and 3 ton bin with flex augers, very good investment. They're on timers so I never have to carry feed. 30 ft of auger, pipe, motor and gear I think was just over 1000.00. Farmer Boy Inc. in PA is where I got mine. Got both my bins for 800.00 You can find them on craigslist, Lancaster...

Prices in the Future aka Cattle Crystal Ball

Just like fuel, there is a top. If beef continues up or stays high, less people will eat beef. Prices will go down. I sell freezer beef and people are already deciding not to buy or just not buy as much as they have. Guess what I'm going to do if I can't sell it?

First Experience with AI a total fail. Need a better way

Roger I have 6 cows and failed the first time with AI, never again. A friend of mine lets me borrow a young bull and that's the best way for me. I too was told the horror stories of having a bull, but several cows in heat and corn, if he's calm he'll be alright. Around here it seems to be around...

    Fresh vs. Pond Water

I think they just like something different as far as well water or pond. Mine won't touch orchard grass, but love the crab grass and we've had lots of rain. Every so often I'll clean my water stations with a little bleach, cows definitely don't like it. Get a little poo in one and they won't...

    What's Her BCS

It would be interesting to see what the carcasses grade. If they truly marble, you really have some great genetics.

    What's Her BCS

Very nice cows Inyati13, have you ever had the carcasses graded. I have to feed mine a lot of grain and some hay, but I consistently get choice + and better carcasses. If yours grade well, seems you'd be ahead of the game.

    hay prices this year? MN/ND/SD

Plus, if you can't sell the hay, price will come down.

    fat cattle

As cheap as corn is now, I'd feed a corn based feed. The best formula I've seen is 3% of their body weight. Let them just lick up enough to leave a small amount in the bunk, then you'll know you have it. I feed hay free choice, I got some now that don't do much with the hay.

    selecting feeder calves

Hi guys, I'm new in raising cattle. One big question I have is how do I select the best Angus feeder calves to butcher as freezer beef. What does the best feeder at 400-600 lbs look like. Thanks in advance
