Have you ever thought about selling em when they get to 800 lbs? You could turn em quicker that way and buy back sooner. You can also catch the markets as they fluctuate. If the market was crummy you could hold on to em a little longer if you had to that way.

Can you feed someone else's calves. That would be a cheaper way to start. People are paying around $1.50/day here for 500 pound calves.

I own a feed store, and I had a handheld buzzer (Mighty Mite)shoplifted from me. Asked around and found out that druggies will have a friend shock them with it as they shoot up, it gives em a bigger rush that way.

The fact that a lot cattle producers are buying their medicine through a catalog or the internet probably doesn't help either.
