This thread made me look at Arrow. I am about to pull the trigger. I was liking the Priefert S04. The Arrow is almost $3,000 more than the Priefert. Same dealer on both....

I've not personally used one but our local Livestock Specialist with Extension and another sizable Registered Angus breeder use them. They absolutely love them and wouldn't use anything else. Got a client who just ordered a Silencer. They are spending some serious $$$.

Priefert is hard to beat though, especially for the money.
I'm sure Arrow is a quality piece, but it is almost twice the price, for basically the same functionality.

A question I am finding asking myself is whether or not, over the course of the next 15+ years, will the incremental cost I'd have in buying the Arrow (instead of a Priefert) be worth the price of a reasonable yearling bull.

...still haven't gone out (yet) to visit LAG... Maybe next week.

Me as a small commercial guy can't justify it. We have several Priefert Model 91 headgates that do the job just fine.

Been seeing the new arrow 86 series listed for nearly that as a price also - in hundreds.

I'm sure this made sense to you when you typed it out ... I read it three times and have zero idea what you're talking about (other than seeing the new 8600 for sale somewhere).

Huh?

The big Arrow (8600) squeeze weighs 1943 lbs.
The small Arrow (Com Catch) squeeze weighs 1400 lbs (and costs about the same as the top-end Priefert).
The S04 Priefert squeeze weighs 1210 lbs.

arrow 86 = nearly $8600 here. Which would be near 10,000 with tax, plus whatever delivery would be.

Does that include the brisket bar and their new head holder and the trailer to haul it around?

...no sales tax on farm equipment in KS...so, we have that going for us (for now)...

No head holder, no trailer, not sure about the brisket bar, the Arrow QC8600 is $6,200, S04 is $3,500.

The Priefert SO 4 would be my choice if I was buying new. I can't justify spending a bunch of money for a head chute. I probably won't put more than 500 head a year through my chute. And my 40 year old WW works better than I do at this point in life.

A squeeze I've recently come across ... I've not seen it in person yet (should this week or next) but some of the features look to be similar to the Arrow.

Thoughts?

Of note, it's 32" wide.

Forgot to say ... 6700 plus 1200 for a trailer ... both are galvanized at those prices.

So, I went out to see the gear at LAG Industries this afternoon. Family owned and operated.

That equipment is some seriously heavy duty stuff. Craftsmanship was high; the welds were good including the coping on anything round; the weakest part was the fits in the sheeting.

I think my wife may have difficulty operating the squeeze due to its heft ... but, if you're running lots of animals, I think it'd last a very long time. It's a very large, heavy duty squeeze.

I really (!) liked their alleyways and the cornerless tub was slick. I liked the possibility of using any of the multiple gates on the tub as ways to provide multiple ways to sort in / out of the tub.

Their heavy duty bale saver feeders looked like they'd do the job for years (decades?).

The feed bunks also looked high quality.

I'm hoping to go revisit the Arrow gear tomorrow or Thursday and can give a bit of a side by side once in back.

Seriously keep that in mind. I have a hard time with our Titan but can easily catch them in the Preifert.

...oh, I am. It's front and center.

If I didn't mention it, the LAG squeeze is a serious piece of equipment. And, I really like their adjustable alley -- very (!) easy to adjust in / out.

I spoke with Brad today with LAG, ordered a tub and a few panels and bow gates. Good price and nice people. Will take photos of LAG crowding tub attached to Arrow Equip alleys and squeeze chute when I get it all set back up.

Finally, an 8600 is getting delivered this week ... can't wait!

Hubba! Hubba!

Hopefully in the not-too-distant future, I'll be getting one of those LAG tubs and maybe some alleyways to integrate.
