We're badly needing someone to supervise a extremely important project...more important than you could ever imagine. Everything is riding on it. It's down to two
One has a proven track record of getting things done. While his methods may at times seem questionable to some. He can be unlikable to the sensitive as he's blunt and to the point. He doesn't really care if your offended by the facts. He's arrogant and loud, can be a bit of a bully. But his record of winning and being successful is very good. He's says he can get the job done and he has a record of doing everything he can to keep his word, and he usually succeeds.

The other while he's been around the business awhile really doesn't seem to accomplish much. Seems to mostly just stand close to people who have. He's a polite and likable fellow...kinda comical in a way. He just doesn't seem to have a grasp on things and changes his mind more often than not. Seems unsure of himself. I can't see anything he's ever really accomplished .. just wondering who's this man for job??

If this scenario is going where it sounds like, that's already been decided. If it involves actually hiring somebody to supervise a fencing job, I'd say look a little farther. It doesn't sound like either would get very far here dealing face to face with locals when they are paying for the work.

I don't necessarily assume it is a fencing job based on your history. If guy No. 1 has to interact with the owner, then warn the owner, about his demeanor, but explain that he is darn good at what he does! Clear choice if your reputation is on the line.
What if guy No. 1's resume also includes some unfathomably catastrophic failures, such as bankrupting a casino?

If you hire the second guy, don't give him a long term contract. Make sure you can send him packing if he lets you down. If he wants to have a package deal including his assistant, just say no. Results count over style usually. But, make sure that the first guy does not take over the Company for his personal benefit. Might need a deeper investigation of both.

Its pretty hard to hurt my feelings and I am far from politically correct so I could probably get behind number one as long as he is producing. Sometimes the complaints keep you from seeing what is being accomplished. Can't stand somebody who rides the clock and doesn't get anything done. They usually ride around in the company truck and just look busy but end of the day you have excuses not results.

As to a mans failures did he quit or just get smarter and work harder? Failing isnt as big an issue to me as a quitter, I hate a quitter. Either one of them got any common sense? Guess end of the day I would work number one and keep my eyes open for a better man for the job next time hiring time comes along.
