I am raising some bottle calves right now and I'm wanting to keep and breed the 3 hfrs and a bull? I have 3 bulls to choose from. Two are angus (maybe cross), 1 red and 1 black. Reds birthweight was 80 lbs. and blacks was 70 lbs. There both only 2-3 weeks old. The other is Char, birthweight 80 lbs. I like the looks of red cattle better but black sell better. and Chars get bigger.
So my questions are:
What bull would you keep and why?
Does a bulls birthweight have anything to do with the birthweight of his calves?
At what age can a bull start breeding? Would it be ready next July/August?
I'm going to buy bred cows next year, should I just sell all the calves next year and buy a few more bred cows?

dont keep any of these fo a bull.u have no idea what u are getting.i know u think u will save $$ but its not going to be worth it when u get a crop of poor calves.i would raise them all until late winter and sale them and buy some heavy bred cows and a bull that is breeding age from a breeder in your area.

spend some money on a good bull. you will only mongrelize your cattle, the bull is half of your genetics it is worth the expense.

None of them, sell at the auction barn in February or March then buy a breeder or AI to a good well documented Bull, also you need to look at you climate, and breeding season that you wish to run
