I have 6 cows that are Holstein X Angus. I have bred them and they all have a one month old calf by their side. I notice they seem to thin out a bit more than my pure bred Angus after calving. I assume it also just has to do with the Holstein frame coming into play. Where I buy grain there is either Beef Grain or Dairy Grain. The nutrition guy has yet to call me back about my next order but I am wondering. Would you feed these cows the dairy grain mix? I am not milking them their only job is to feed their calf. They all have massive udders and are literally leaking milk all day.

If you're just bucket training, getting them to follow you, it shouldn't make any difference. Why are you feeding grain?

They are cows that have just have calves. They are Angus X Holstein and I am using them for breeding. I don't think these girls would survive with no grain.
