What I'm seeing today

Help Support CattleToday:

Yep, I like it here, there's a few other places I like in this country, but I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

I get burnt out on running equipment sometimes but I know I'm very very blessed compared to many. It also helps that I spend atleast 1 day every week and as many as 6 days a week sometimes going to sales trying to buy cattle. It's a good balance, and I thank god daily for my life.

Started working cows and calves for the spring round, did 22 pair at one place and 26 pair at another today.

Wish I had 1000 more just like this one.

Been camping at the lake off and on for a few days. It's just a couple miles from the house soaked it easy

I am sure that you all know, we are trying to conserve water usage here in California. On my place we flood irrigate. So about every 2 weeks the water district calls us and lets us know that they are sending water down our ditches. It does not matter what time of day or night. Either my caretaker or I will be up all night long in the fields diverting and monitoring water from one check to another. Usually when the field is about 2/3 of the way wet, we call for it to be shut down, and the tail water will be enough to finish the job. So the caretaker called in for shut down about 2:30 AM. (Well before the 2/3 line.)
This is what I woke up to this AM! Every thing under water! Corrals, pens, everything that did not need to be watered was a pond! The horses standing on a small island. The result of a lazy water tender that did not want to get out of bed until 5 AM! (This happened 2 weeks ago, and I specifically called yesterday, and told them not to let it happen again!)
How are we suppose to do our part in conserving water, when the water company won't even shut it off when it is not needed? :bang: Not to mention, I could be fined for wasting water!

You should raise crawfish.....;)
 I DO find crawfish everywhere! If they can get out of the pasture and dodge the birds, they end up in the pond.
Of course, they have to navigate the cow pies to get there!

That water rationing and irrigation ditches/diverting just amazes me. We have no shortage of water and I've never experienced nor given much consideration to dealing with that type situation.

I saw alot of this today, drove over 300 miles today going to different jobs, picking up materiel and checking cows.

Drilled post holes for a 30 x 40 barn at one job, then drilled some holes on one of our places, then went to this place to drill 2 holes for a gate, I drive in to the back of this place with my truck and trailer through 3 miles of forest service 4 wheeler trail.

Then I went and picked up everything besides the trusses to build that barn.

It was a long day of loading, un loading, tying stuff down and going. After days like this a guy kinda feels like he has been around the world.

this is what i saw sunday i cleared a spot out for my neighbors son to build a house i told him clear more trees out or he will be calling me to take trees off his house his wife didnt want to so i cleared out just enough for house and a small yard.

Sky,
I had the same problem with my wife when I cleared for our house. That was 7 years ago, the clearing has now doubled in size.

 it happens. I told him pay once while equipment is here or a few more times down the road  My wife didn't have a say so in the matter place we needed to be at to build on a perkable site had no trees on it for 4 acres lol

I had wanted to see this today but i guess it rained alot more than i thought so I gotta wait till it dries out some to plant some corn near my stand.

I bet you can even drink on that one and still get them rows neat and straight!

That's a pretty good looking corn planting setup! Where did you get it? How many acres are you planting? What will you do with it?
