It has been many years ago, I was a 4-H leader. This contest is trying to teach about the commercial industry. You need to try to grow your calves as cheaply as possible (buy your feed in bulk, buying corn at the turn row will help). Don't give a big premium for your calves as it raises your total costs. Select calves that have gainability and calves that will have a lot of yield. Know what your costs are and practice being able to explain it (the interview part). Learn about nutrition, cost of gain, grade and yield, cattle diseases and husbandry practices for the test.
