Welcome Tropical Storm Harvey

Help Support CattleToday:

Ex Harvey, but might even make it back up to TS or hurricane strength before it gets to the coast.

I could use the rain tho, and was up in Cass County over the weekend. Dry there too. Green, but dry.

I'm torn on trying to get one of of my oat fields in a few weeks early. Done it a couple times before. Won and lost

Its too early for us to think about oats or rye, ground is probably too hard also, but I may use this moisture to start rolling some ground. Plant before the next rain in a month or so.

We have rain in the forecast for the
next six days. I still have standing water in the pastures.

You do know if the weather person starts predicting how much it will rain with all the alerts it will not rain.

How much per acre do you think that'll cost to gamble or seed, fertilizer and fuel?

100 #per acre seed _ 20.00
Diesel _____________ 2.00
I've got a 12 acre new field we just opened up.
It's already chiseled and disc. I would probably wait on nitrogen with 4-5 inches possible. I've pretty much decided against it. Even if it takes planting early almost guarantees army worms. 10.00 per acre

Tough call, I'm in the same boat on rye. Perhaps better odds at the casino? :cowboy:

Looks like they are moving the landfall up the coast. Thats about right. We will probably be lucky to get any thing out of it.

The map I saw a little earlier showed landfall around Corpus, moving inland to the WNW some, then curving back to the SE and in the Houston area in 5 days. (I couldn't see the yellow/green dots well, so I added a black circle to each one)

Last I looked the weather service has slowed it down making our way Monday.
Guess it all depends on this front
coming in

Raining here now with a pretty good wind, but I don't think it's associated with Harvey.
I would prefer the ground not get saturated before the tropical stuff arrives............

I'm planning on spraying tomorrow morning. Going to use some good surfactant and let it roll. I still lack one place. It got so dry I had to stop.

I already moved cattle from pastures with water gaps or that depend on water wells.

I'm ready. :)
