And up to this point, the winter was actually going very well. Weather station said Fort Frances/International Falls was dead center bullseye for the storm. Hopefully that has changed.

We got over 60 cm's(24 inches) from Saturday night to Monday night .. This was NOT out first heavy snowfall of the year . If this is a prediction of wind , snow and bitterly cold temps for the winter it will probably be my last year here .

Stay warm and safe MM !

Poor cows :(

Maybe, but this now freezing rain, on top of a foot of snow, with another foot coming, is making my whole body seize up in anticipation of tomorrows activities!

We need to put up a blizzard fence between us and our neighbors to the North to keep this cold stuff up where it belongs. Oh shucks, I shouldn't have said that. Osama will have that working in the next few months.

MistyMorning, You do realize that there are places in the world that you can live where it doesn't do that, right?
It's supposed to get down to 24 here tonight and that's newsworthy panic time here.

Nah, there isn't but 5-6 inches of ice on the lakes yet, needs to get colder

BHB, lots of wood for the fire, going out in the cold to fill the boiler is nasty though!

GA, I think that trip you took to Minneysoda froze your brain.

and dun....... never mind.

I just don't think I could live up north and deal with that for months at a time. Although I've heard some old timers say it's better for a cow to calve in well below freezing temps and snow than in mid 30s, rain and wind. I just can't keep my hands warm anymore and sometimes my feet, I did get some new Rocky brand insulated & waterproof boots that seem to be really warmer than I've ever had.

To be honest, ice storms folks south of us are having seem a lot more brutal and frightening to me, ice is pretty destructive.

 Yup, I'll take a foot and a half of snow over a 1/2 inch of ice any day. We ended up with about 4" of snow with an inch of rain on top, so now that it's below zero we have snow a deer can walk on.
