Water snake experts

I read that only venomous snakes swim with their entire body on top of the water.
I have seen several like this one swimming on top of the water.
They are brown with a dark V pattern.
I have a video but can't get it loaded to YouTube.
They are long and slender and not thick and blunt like water moccasin
I don't think they are venomous, but ???

There are several species of harmless water snakes. That one does not have the profile of a Cottonmouth. Cottonmouth is a stout snake, blunted tail. Large broad head.

They also say a cottonmouth won't bite under water.. I witnessed that first hand..
