Use sick leave for vacation

Help Support CattleToday:

Wow Dave, that's neat. I've never worked for anyone that allowed someone to donate to others. Last couple of jobs I had I guess I donated a huge amount of time to the company as I was seldom off for sickness and when I left I lost it. I really don't care for people that abuse sick leave at all. Nothing more than a liar and cheater. Makes you wonder what else might be going on that you may not know about.

Some of our contractors have that option. Problem is clerical people have to donate to clerical people, engineers to engineers etc. Quality Control personnel are wanting to donate to a clerical person and cannot - and the clerical person is deserving.

Are your best hands the type of people who call in sick at least one day a month?

There are times a company is looking for any excuse to send someone down the road. It might be the case here with this fellow vacationing on sick time. His ethics come in to question either way.

We had a sick leave "club" and donated to it to make up someone's pay when they went on half pay.
The abuser's were not allowed to join us. We policed ourselves pretty tight.

When I worked for the army as a civil servant your annual evaluation was partially based on sick leave use. Some folks got pretty upset when they didn;t get their annual raise because of them abusing sick leave. But that was 35 years ago so I'm sure that's all been changed to make it "fair"

That is why I like being self-employed.... I make the policy. ;-)

I'm also self employed, thing I don't like about it;

No vacation pay
No sick leave
No personal days
No 9 to 5 and forget about things
No contributions into my 401k
I pay double social security
Employee problems are someonelses headaches
No more 40 hour work weeks
Less family time

While I like being self employed it can be a nightmare.

Yes the guy should have gotten fired, he's untrustworthy because he a liar and he cheated the company out of money.

You missed a couple. Double federal tax and double state tax cause you have to pay what the company would match you do you not?

Then there are all those little backdoor taxes you also have to pay. Its lovely!!!

Fees. They're called fees. It's so much easier to just slap down a new fee than it is to get everyone up in arms over a dreaded TAX and a tax takes alot more hoops for them to jump through.

Or triple and existing fee.

I'm trying to count the number of licenses I'm required to have and I can't do it. I can think of 9 that I have but I know I'm missing something.

Thinking on this makes me wonder if the government wasn't so he77 bent on taxing every little thing would the country not be in better shape cause they make a mess out of everything they touch. Just look at marriage. This has got nothing to do with the government at all and is between you, your spouse and God but they had to stick their hand out and demand a tax for the marriage license. Now we have gays wanting to pay the tax so they too can be married. He77, its no wonder the democrats love gay people so much. Demented perverse idiots demanding to pay a tax. Maybe if we did away with the tax on marriage, maybe this could be left up to the church and congress could go back to figuring out how to spend money more wisely.

Part of what drove me out of california was the "Fees" that they added every year to have a gunshop. When greed gets going it's kind of amazing how creative the politocos can get to get more money

Its seems its everywher I turn these days. What infuriates me after the paper reduction act they are no longer sending paper notices of what I owe for whatever permit this might be but are sending it through e-mail. In my e-mail I have so much trash this gets lost then I get fined for the fee being paid late.

I had a friend drop by from Ontario yesterday and he was limping badly and was in need a hip replacement. I gave him some rheumatism medicine and we got to shooting the breeze and I mentioned it was a good thing he was Canadian because he would get the new hip and a new knee for free. He said it all worked out in the long run though cause he has to pay 30% in income tax and 13% in sales tax for whatever he buys. 30%?!?! Heck, to put a $1000 in my pocket I have to net $1400 so I'm paying 40%. Then I have to pay 7% sales tax which as I see it puts me at 47% tax rate. Then there is my medical insurance cost. $1000/month - $12,000/year which easily put me over 50% versus the 43% he is paying and he actually gets something for his money whereas I only get the warm feeling of knowing I have given some lucky fella a free cell phone - and now laptops. :bang: Then there is the accountant's fee which will be several thousand more dollars for sorting through all the tangled mess we call a tax code and - if I understood him correctly - in Canada you don't have to pay taxes on your retirement savings.

After talking to him, I went and renewed my passport and am thinking that maybe Canada's weather isn't that bad afterall. Heck, throwing snowballs at Hillsdown's cows might even be fun. :lol2:

Worse than sick leave abuse is people telecommuting. We had a gal in the office who at the end of the month never had a bit of leave time available, either sick or vacation. They decided to let people telecommute. She did it and suddenly she had tons of sick leave a vacation. I know that she just laid in bed instead of taking leave. She was supposed to check in every morning with the boss. She would do that and just go back to bed. Another guy who runs a farm and telecommutes every other week. He has a smart phone. The boss sends him an email and he responds right away like he is sitting at his desk. But with the smart phone he is just as likely to be sitting on his tractor.

We get two sick days a month. Most time they get accumulated but the max is 200 sick days a year. I drive school bus and it is amazing how often I do get sick with all those loveable snot nosed rug rats. That said, my specialist are 2.5 hours away and most times when I have an appointment I wait twos hours. With my health the last few years getting worse, I have used a lot of sick days. And now with seeing a marriage counsellor, some appointment can not be done phone in..most are. My boss knows my health issues and knows I need use my sick time for being sick. I have to find my bus driver replacement for my dr appointments and if I am sick try to find. That makes it easier on the boss. My job is to notify the division for the sick days and who my replacement is. Emergency sickness, like admitted to hospital, the boss finds.
So what I am trying to get at, there are some honest people out there who do not abuse the system.

For those who think two days a month sounds like a lot ask yourself, would you like your kids being driven around by a sick medicated bus driver whose primary job is the safety of the children? Where being alert is in the job description?

Thought not.
