Soooo as I understand it, that means that there are fewer folks collecting unemployment benefits...
Soooo those folks whose unemplyment benefits that have been exhausted, the State is not going to send them a check, and they still don't have a job... Do they contribute to this being a good thing?
I guess that numbers are numbers.... Geez

It's no different on either side of the border. Fewer collecting benefits, more jobs being created....everybody's happy. Except the few finding jobs probably don't even make a dent in the number of people who have run out their benefits and still don't have a job. :cowboy:

Gov't been doing some hiring so I guess there's some job growth. I heard the Polk Co School System in Florida was going to give away $350,000 worith of Ipods to parents who would fill out a 10 minute survey. Closer to home we are fixing to get a $800,000 walking trail and just north of me they are going to spend $9.1 million to expand a horse track. Yes, things are good. Who ever said we were in a recession.

Many could learn from the inspired words of the ancient Greek Poet Aeschylus (525bc - 456 bc)

God loves to help him who strives to help himself.

I have a brother in law who has collected unemployment for the past year and when he filed his taxes this week he informed me that he was getting $4500 dollars back! Why in the world would this 20 year old even want to get a job? Collecting money for doing nothing! Great system we have.

A bunch of us were talking about this the other day. According to the news things are getting better. So I asked how many people know someone who is out of work. Everyone did. Then i asked how many know someone out of work who found a new job. No one know of a single person who had found a new job. So how are things getting better?

i got a freind who has been unemploed for over ayear too, and she is actively looking wanting to work, but no luck so far. She said she is getting thousands back to-how can that be? If she didn't have money taken out, how can she get money back? What am I missing?

Child tax credit. It doesn't matter if you payed in only 20.00 in taxes. If you have kids you qualify. It's like 1k or 1.5k per child. The bottom line is many people are getting much more back than they paid in. That money comes from folks like me who pays in way more than I get back. It's called redistribution of the wealth or socialism.

I've been looking since June, but I've never taken unemployment (thank God the husband has a good job). Every time I apply for a job, there's 20 people who apply also. I don't think unemployment is any better here.

The nuke power industry was about to blow open for the first time in nearly 40 years. Then a year ago the power incentives were taken out. Two weeks ago we were told they are coming back. Some of the change is going away it seems.

OK I see, she does have one son, single Mom. I think the unemployment around here is just as bad, one big Co. did hire about 200 people, but they hired people that agreed to move from another plant that shut down from out of state, welders, etc..

Been going on a long time. Around here it is called, "Raising -------kids for fun and profit."
At the Wally World parking lot I marvel at the cars some of them drive. Can you say Cadillac and Lexus.
Heard one woman tell another that she deserved that new car. I'm not against anyone having a prosperous life. But she deserves it and you are paying for it.

Smoke and mirrors?
Information from Aden Forecast (Feb.) says that the official unemployment rate is about 10% but that does not account for people whose benefits have run out and does not account for those who have stopped lookiing for work. Actually it is about 20%. "A jobless recovery is not a healthy recovery."

Is it even a recovery?

Another alarming stat is the food stamp rolls.
We have a lot of folks getting the stamps even if they aren't getting anything else.

A neighbor lady lived on that "earned income credit". She was making $15,000 in a flower shop and raising a son and she paid her bills when she got that credit.
In an encouraging development, she now owns a flower shop and is doing well. True story.

Neighbor lady was taking a "hand up" and not a "hand out".

I don't know about the rest of you but we have had people drive into the yard almost every day this winter, looking for work, wanting to roof the house, trim the trees, spray for bugs, try to sell you somthing, you name it. There is just no money moving around any where. Its getting ugly!! @

I think the overall situation is worse than the unemployment numbers getting reported. There are a lot of people who have a job but they are under employed. They are working at a fast food joint or retail store to get by, making a lot less. This trickles down to even kids having trouble finding jobs. I have a couple of nephews that have "cold called" to put in applications and answered ads and put a good effort into finding a job. But they keep losing out to the 30-somethings with a family. Why hire a 19-year old kid when you can hire a grownup that you expect will show up everyday and try harder because they NEED the job?

Lots on industry is going overseas because the US is anti business. We "invest" in social programs and recreational areas since there are not enough jobs, while they provide incentives and tax holidays to selected industries to create jobs.
