You are correct. I get massive flocks of hens and Tom's but not at the same time.I have observed that in the winter they tend to flock by sex. The flock size can be impressive with some of the hen groups.
That's what I see around here in the winter, I think I counted around 30 or so with that group, I know up here they don't start breeding until April or later, down south lm not sure but I think its closer to the end of February or March.I have observed that in the winter they tend to flock by sex. We haven't seen many since the epic storm, but saw a tom all spread today. Mating season already? Are those all hens? I can hardly wait for turkey season to get here!
We have a ridiculous amount of turkeys. As in, obnoxious and they need to go away. Right up by the house, hanging with the herd, in the barnyard, freaking out the barn cats, congregating around the deer feeder (they're not completely stupid). How cool. We have very few in E Texas. Rarely see them
The geese up here are more obnoxious than the turkeys, I'll take the turkeys anyday. We have a ridiculous amount of turkeys. As in, obnoxious and they need to go away. I always enjoy a good turkey dinner! HahahaWe have a ridiculous amount of turkeys. As in, obnoxious and they need to go away. Right up by the house, hanging with the herd, in the barnyard, freaking out the barn cats, congregating around the deer feeder (they're not completely stupid).
True! We used to live in WI and they were positively evil. I got chased on the golf course once; didn't occur to me to swing my club. The geese up here are more obnoxious than the turkeys, I'll take the turkeys anyday.
There is a season, but I honestly don't pay attention to when, how long & whether there's a quota because neither one of us hunt them (I'm perfectly happy with a Butterball).I always enjoy a good turkey dinner! Hahaha
Is there a season and harvest quota?
