Tongue Sticking Out ???

What do you make of a week out calf that usually has the tip of his tougue sticking out an inch or more?

Nah.. I have had several born and did that. dont know why.. just did. Seems like they finally learn how to pull it in all the way.

It will soon get control over its tongue, unless the calf has an overshot jaw, but even then he'll finally get it under control.

Had a bunch of the newborn calves are like that one....they eventually know how to roll up the tongue back in the mouth.

we bought a 190 # calf at a sale barn and at the sale she was fine but after we got her home she would stand and let her tongue hang out about 5 r 6 inches no kiddin, she wouldnt take a bottle either so she just ate hay, got her started on grain and she ended up fine and raised us quite a few calves. i thought maybe she had got her neck stuck somewhere and that caused her to do that. we named her jeannie after gene simmons from the rock group KISS, he had a real long tongue and stuck it out all the time. ha ha.
