Needing to buy some tires for the ol Dodge dually 235/80/17...no offroading mainly just highway with some very heavy pulling once a month....so what are you guys using and why?

As long as its a name brand tire with a 8 or 10 ply sidewall strength rating you will be good.

Actually I have been real impreased with my Toyo's on my 2500, as much towing as I do I might eak out 35k on them.

Nitto terra grapplers have been on sale nationwide for a while
They come in a e range and aren't so aggressive they beat you up or are loud. But enough to give you good traction in wet grass or sand

I 2nd the nitto terra grapplers. Thats what i run on my single wheel 3500 dodge, but there a lot bigger at 315/70/17s. But they work great in the barn lot and hauling a heavy load down the road tho.

my truck has drag raced em..sled pulled em..and hauled waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more wieght than im allowed to on a reg basis....the grapplers are real good tires...and i get 40k out of em. im moving into a trail grappler this time but the nittos will go on my wifes truck next

I'm with Galloway2 and Bigfoot on the Coopers....They are CRAP!!

I've got Summit Mud Dawgs one my Chevy 2500, tow and haul alot, great in all terrain snow and mud not overly loud and at 30,000 miles they still have lots of tread left.

For Non Offroad tires its hard to beat a Michelin LTX M/S or the new LTX M/S2 the tread is not all that impressive looking but it is deep has great all around traction especially on hard pack and ice since its sipped. Tires are quiet unlike most A/T tires This tire will be more expensive than most of your cheap import tires but will easily last 80,000 my buddy has over 90,000 miles on his and is a ways from the wear bars. This is assuming you have a good alignment, Although i do not pull extremely heavy loads with my truck i would expect they do just fine.
the following two links on tire rack have customer reviews and overall results of ratings the LTX speaks for itself

I went with the Michelin LTX M/S at NTB, they are have stopped making that tire and NTB is selling those things cheap . Got six with all the whistles and bells for $1250....If anybody needs some tires for your dually check into this deal quick, they are going fast

I believe you'll be very happy with these tires and shouldn't need another set of tires for your truck for a long time.
