Im looking for ideas for thing to do, places to eat, and places to stay. We will be running up and down I-10 from Texas to Florida mid to end of July. It will be my 13yr old son and I. I'm open to any and all ideas.

Thanks in advance. :tiphat:

Astros game if the timing works with their schedule at Minute Maid Park.

From I-10 traveling East, exit US 59 South.
Quickly exit Downtown Destinations/Hamilton and continue straight to Preston.
At Hamilton and Preston, you will take a right into the Diamond Club parking lot.
If you intersect with Texas Ave., you've gone too far.

Another neat stop is the San Jacinto monument along with the Battleship Texas.

The answer depends on where in Texas the journey begins and where it ends in Florida. Start by counting the expansion joints in the road. It will drive you batty. However, an airboat ride at the Texas, Louisiana area would be great fun. Biloxi has some fine table fare (seafood) right off the highway, and the beach near Panama city is a sight to behold. If you have more time, book a charter in Venice for some yellowfin tuna, snapper and wahoo action. Most importantly, have a great time with your son!

I know where you are starting but not where your going in FL. Many CT members along the route. Bringing this back to the top so everyone can see it.

Also the USS Alabama it's right off I-10
lot of history there.

One of the few places I've been in my limited travels. I really enjoyed the Alabama. Matter of fact, I enjoyed downtown Mobile. Good seafood and an old timey movie theater.

Look up M-5. I think he's close to I-10. But not sure.

Battle ship in Mobile is a good tour. From pcola (Wahoo's game if you're coming thru at night) to tally is fairly desolate I'm about 2/3 the way on that stretch. Tallahassee has alot to offer as far a food and lodging.

Im mainly looking for things out of Texas for this trip. We have done San Jacinto and the Astros and both are great.

We have 3 days to get to the Magic Kingdom. GPS says 16 hrs. We will meet my cousins there for one day. Then head down to the keys to fish and play for 6 days. Then we have 3 days to work our way back.

I saw a place that advertised a 2hr tour thru the swamp in LA. Not sure if its on an air boat or what. I have been in air boats on the coast but my son has not. That would be fun.

Ill look for the beach in Panama City. I saw one online that was a park with supposedly really white sand and clear water. I wonder if its the same one?

If yall have recommendations for restaurants around Biloxi Ill take them.

We will probably do the USS Alabama for sure. He likes history. He enjoys battle ships, missions, and all that stuff.

I have other family that is flying there and back but we have the time this year to drive and mess around this year. He is still fairly easy to entertain right now. A pool, shuffle board table, pin ball, etc will entertain us for hours and hours.

Im trying to set up Moab and/ or Yellowstone & the Dakotas next year. I have a short window to work with here. :)

The Fillin' Station would be a good place to grab a bite in Biloxi. Only place I've had bad food there was at the casino.

Make dang sure your out of the Keys before the last Wednesday and Thursday of July. Mini lobster season starts then and it's a nightmare come true. Lion Country Safari in West Palm Beach is pretty neat. And the Banana Boat restaurant in Boynton Beach has great seafood, it's on the water with a live band on the weekends.

Probably in the Atchafalya Basin just East of Lafayette. There's one at Henderson landing that is air boats..big airboats. They're crowded.
It's ok, if you like swamps, bugs and noise. I don't.

I have done lobster season down there a couple times when I was younger and yes it is crazy. It is sooo much fun though. We will do a lobster season in a couple years with him. Im probably too fat now. :) My lung capacity isn't what it used to be. When I tell people how you catch them they think Im messing with them.

It may not have survived the Harvey flood. Water was pretty deep on I-10 some places.

Check the Blue Angels schedule and yes see the battleship.

Used to be a big fireworks store at Alabama/Florida line on Alabama side of the border. Maybe it's still there.

You've got some some really good suggestions from everyone and I'd mention every single one of them to your son. I will tell you this, the best trips I've had with my daughter were the ones where we had no solid plan. We had a destination but I told her if she felt like stopping somewhere we would, if not we would keep trucking until she felt like stopping or saw something she wanted to check out.

If you've never driven that route, don't make the mistake that a lot of people do and that is to needlessly drive through New Orleans. Going east when you get to Baton Rouge get off I-10 and take I-12 . I-12 will run back into I-10 at Slidell. I-12 is shorter and faster than I-10 through New Orleans.
