I am pizzed off!!!!

My son was having an argument with another kid who he has never gotten along with. Well this other kid, who is the son of my former co-worker who accosted me, came up and sucker punched my son in his right eye. Splitting the skin and knocking him out for 15 minutes.
I have already called the super of the school. I am demanding this other kid be expelled.

Hard for my son to defend himself when you don't see it coming.

If nothing is done I do plan to talk to law enforcement about assault charges.

Go ahead and call law enforcement. There is no place for being sucker punched by a third party in a verbal argument.

School systems have one set of rules, law enforcement has another. Dealing with this is much easier for the school when it has the support or opinion from the law. The sucker puncher's parents can argue with the school. They will not argue with an officer.
School bullying is a growing problem in our public schools. A sucker punch is usually seen as assault. If the other kid had no dog in the fight then he should be held accountable.

You really need to move.
They already whooped your husband and now your son and you seem to fight with everyone there.

Brute the first kid had learned his lesson about keeping his hands off my son. He had kicked my son bewteen the legs and son returned the favor with a set of work boots. Also had to bloody this kids nose once after he had punched my son first.

This second kid had no reason to even touch my son. We had taught my son to never hit first, just hit last.
This other kid had no reason to get involved other then trying to make a name for himself. He just moved here a couple months ago.

You know that wonderful look your eye gets from busted blood vessels? That is how his eye looks plus it is twice it's normal size.

Only a coward runs SandTrap. Just don't need a murder wrap.

Just what will assault charges accomplish unless there are other factors like a big difference in age.
We can't walk around with a cop in our pocket.

First mistake was teaching your son not to hit first, but to hit last. Well, how did that work out?
Better to teach him how to take responsibility for his life and teach him how to win and then not to be a bully but be a strong positive influence in his world.

I grant your son may not have had a chance if he didn't know it was coming, but google Geoff Thompson and see what he says about the "fence". That's a starting point.

You didn't say the ages but the dynamics are pretty much the same for any age.

Don't mean to be unsympathtic or negative, but within the last year or so I have had several eye surgeries that were possibly from being hit in the eye when I was a teenager. But the other guy's face and nose got busted up pretty good. That put a stop to what had been going on from him since 2nd grade.

The feeling of freedom is a wonderful thing. The cops or school personnel can't give that to you.

mostly the bullies in the world just have to know that you will fight back....you don't necessarily have to beat them down just make it difficult for them to push you around.

if it were my eye even at my advanced age I would be looking for a chance to even the score....only these days i would truly even it by offering a sucker punch of my own....

one thing I have learned late in life...fighting fair is less improtant than fighting to win....I went thru years of being honorably pounded on cause I was tough and fair....now I am experienced and treacherous.

the kid that did the sucker punching needs to be followed out by your son til hes alone somewhere just your boy and him and tell yer son to beat him down.
i had to do that once to a kid..i broke his jaw...he dared me to hit him..thought it was funny. i knocked him off his feet...when he showed up at school with the side of his face balck and blue for a week i never had any issues with anyone after that...
if yer out med bills go see his folks for the moey..otherwise the little pos needs a beatdown or he will never figure it out
the only rule in a fight is to win...period

If it happened in our school district, the school would have called the police. Both parents would be called, and the parent of the attacked student would be asked if he/she wanted to file charges. The offender would be expelled and depending on the age, sent to ACS (Alternative school or as the kids call it Academy for Criminals School). It is the school district's boot camp for disruptive students.

I know this because one of our daughters was attacked by a fellow student who went into a rage in the classroom (elementary) school when another student took his pencil. He was on meds and had learning problems.

How old is your son and the boy who attacked him?

Here is a bit of advice it took me years to learn. You can't win against a loser. This child and this child's family have probably down this road before. They are well aware that it is a dead end. It will drag on and on. If the school will punish him that will be immediate. If you try to go through the court system you will be very disappointed. I am guessing at the very most a court designated worker will have him right some sort of paper on the episode. Minors are not punished in this country. For that matter adults are not either.

the facts are this some people will force other people to fight back no matter what, the kid that did the sucker punching better watch his back from now own.because sooner or later he will get caught.

My son is 15 other kid is 16.
Yeah son wants some serious revenge against this kid.
Kid lives in town and son out of town.

Talked to the super this morning and he is calling the local cops. (The do nothings) Knowing them as I do nothing will be done.

Turns out one of my son's friends took a pic of his eye yesterday and showed it to the super. The puncher had already skipped school by then. Super is waiting for that kid.

I sure hope he never gets in a gun fight!

There is no real answer here. I know what I did when I was in his shoes. Some things work for some situations and some things don't. When you are a Freshman in HS you give the biggest senior a black eye. It doesn't matter how bad you get your tail kicked, you just give him a black eye and he'll hear about it from everyone - and everyone will leave you alone henceforth.

I have a friend who is dead from a situation not much different than yours.

Now days.. most schools have policies developed for menacing/bullying/harassment behaviors towards other students on school property, which also should involve the law enforcement when it does occur. In your case, I would think the school would expell the student from school permantly. (they would around here I know) As mentioned before, it is so tough to get anything to be done about juveniles, and that makes it even more difficult for parents.
Now back in my days.. we would just agree to meet somewhere else OFF of the school grounds and settle it with a good ol fist fight..

ACTUALLY WE HAVE COPS IN ALL OF THE SCHOOLS AROUND HERE....
SERIOUSLY....THERE IS A DEPUTY STATIONED AT EVERY SCHOOL....
MY RIDING BUDDY IS A DEPUTY SHERIFF AND HE WAS A SCHOOL OFFICER FOR 5 OR 6 YEARS.

BUT IT IS SORT OF LIKE THE NFL....THEY USUALLY CATCH THE KID WHO RETALIATES TO A FOUL.

when my kids were in school all of them got suspended for fighting my youngest 3 times. I explained to them never to start the fight and always finish it. In our district there is a no tolerance rule so if your involved you get suspended so you might as well beat their AZZ. The other kid need a beating to teach him a lesson and your son will benefit in ways you can not understand as a mom. good luck

Ok--I'll play. I grew up as a kid that weighed 90lbs--tall and scrawny, had an identical twin brother, and we would fight till neither of us could stand anymore. I raised 3 sons too, so I have a bit of experience in the boy at school thing.
I haven't been privy to what has happened before this incident, but from just reading this thread, there seems to be some precedent.
With boys, bulls, dogs, and alligators, there's gonna be a peckin' order set of the alpha male type thing--always, since the dawn of time.
2 things jump out at me in these posts:
(1)
not to hit first, but to hit last.
(2)
Well this other kid,... came up and sucker punched my son in his right eye.
(3)
I am demanding this other kid be expelled
1. You tied your son's hands for the 1st 1-2 punches. That, is historically a failed strategy for kids, adults, and sovereign nations. Think about it.
2. Sucker punch or free punch--what's the difference? You basically told your son he has to stand there and take the first haymaker gratis.
Ouch! Kinda hard to throw the last punch when the 1st one was essentially both the 1st and last one. Harder still when the first one (a freebie) leaves ya layin on the ground watchin the stars go round in your head. IOW, there is NO difference in a sucker punch and a free punch unless the intent is to run from the free punch and I don't think that was your intentions when telling your son those now questionable words of wisdom. It hasn't been that long ago I heard the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet tell the rest of the world we would never be the first to use nuclear weapons, thus giving them the first punch free of charge. Our potential enemies must have grinned broadly and slept soundly in their beds that night. We better hope that first punch isn't a knockout punch..

(3) You want the kid expelled. Ok--big deal--he left school anyway and probably won't give a crap one way or another if he ever returns or not. You ever read or see Helter Skelter the Charles Manson story? Manson had been in and out of prison his whole life and knew the ins and outs of prison life. At the very end, after he had been sentenced to life in prison, he just shrugged and said to the prosecutor:
"If you give a man the whip and he likes the whip--what have you really done to him?"

If my father had told me I had to take the 1st punch I'd probably never went back to school. I got my butt kicked lots of times, but I never had to fight the same person twice.

I believe in 3 things--in this order, and they apply to all aspects of our lives:
STAND! (this, is non-negotiable--EVER)
Don't start no crap there won't be no crap.
You want to start crap, I'm of the opinion that the best defense is an absolutely overwhelming offense.

Best of luck to ya in this, but I honestly think you should rethink #1, because eventually, your son is most certainly going to anyway. He ain't gonna stand there and take that 1st punch his whole life--I guarantee that!
