sick calf

have calf that has been treated for pnuemonia with oxy-tet. did well for a couple of days , now is down agian. will eat but does not seem to have any energy and has a little mucus still. what do I do?

you most likely will need to check with your vet and get some stronger antibiotics...

Try Nuflur. Or you can try your oxy-tet and treat them over a couple of more days.

Your vet can listen to the calf's lungs with a stethoscope and determine whether or not he still has pneumonia. After an exam, the vet can determine what course of treatment would be best.

If the calf has viral pneumonia, the antibiotic may just have killed off a secondary bacterial infection so the calf would have more strength to fight the virus. Antibiotics don't kill viruses.

Try Nuflour or Micatil (sp), and I agree that if it is a virus it will just take time, but I would continue to treat with an antibiotic.

Keep the calf hydrated warm and comfortable.... and I would have the vet come out to take a look and listen to the lungd.

We raise baby calves and we have a vet on twice a week on routine now, works great...

we had a calf born in a rainstorm, had pnemonia, vet gave her micotil, vit. b shot for appetite and banamine, now she's great.
