We usually run 2 bulls per group of cows. Last year we ran one 18 month old bull with a group of 23 heifers. This spring the heifers were producing 1 to 2 calves per day for about a week, then no calves at all for about 2 more weeks, then they re started calving again. We did not notice any injury or sickness last summer. Any ideas what could have happened during the second and third weeks of the breeding season?

Heifers may just not have been cycling/were in tight together. Our group did same thing. All AI's calved then 3 weeks later most and then 3 weeks later the rest. He had a bunch of work to do on 2nd round. Sexed semen didn't go as planned.

I have 37 heifers in the herd this year and I am planning to turn out 2 bulls. Do beef heifers sync up naturally just like some wild prey herd animals and dorm roommates?
