My middle daughter Sara shot this old buck on the weekend-he lost some tine length but has a twenty three inch spread which is rare up here.

Wow is right!

What do you reckon he weighed?
And how old do you think he is?

I'd guess him at maybe 250-300 and probably 7+ his best years for horn growth are definately behind him-he had a broken off drop tine on the right side too.

We'll probably do a European mount of it-got a few too many full head mounts in the pipeline right now.

Whats the meat like on an old buck like this?
Maybe a bit chewier then a youngster but that's about it. Although the toughest venison I've had was from a yearling doe that was dropped in her tracks with one shot.

If you trim all the fat and don't leave any bone in it's pretty darn good eating. We shoot quite a few big bucks and devour every one of them lol.
