If it becomes certified, the 51-point buck would break the current record, which was set in 2016 by a 27-year-old farmer from Gallatin, Tennessee. Stephen Tucker shot that 47-point buck with a muzzleloader, according to USA TODAY.

These writers don't seem to have any idea what they're writing about. I think they just copy things from other articles, thus the same mis-information gets passed from one article to the next.
The "51" point deer is nowhere near world record size, and doesn't actually have 51 points. The only "record" would be the number of points, if it actually had 51. But that's not a real record, and it doesn't.
The deer from TN is the "world record shot by a hunter". The actual world record non typical whitetail was found in Missouri back in '81.

Here's the actual buck that might be the new record.

Those points are easy counted. If something like that crossed in from of me I would probably miss.
