I ran my first prescribed burn today. Had help from the local NRCS guys and it was a success.Wind shifted on us as were getting ready to light the head fire so had to just light a flank. Burnt around 180 acres, mostly KR bluestem, some 5 yr old cedar regrowth and pear. I'll try to get some pics posted that I took with my drone.

When you say 'pear', are you talking prickly pear cactus or seedling callery(Bradford-type) pears?
Over here in the east, we don't have much prickly pear, but volunteer callery pears are becoming a major issue.

I had never heard of Nolan County, so I googled it,
You out by Sweetwater, at least the human growth has not got to you yet, down in Caldwell County human growth is destroying the county for farmers and ranchers, the county is being subdivided up, the best black land used for farming will be gone in 20 years.

Lot of land north of Austin has gone from cotton fields to subdivisions. Schools that use to have 100 in 12 grades now have 2500 in 12 grades. Just a sign of the growth in the state.
