We had a 4 1/2 mo old calf cut on Wednesday. He had a little extra bleeding on one side, so the vet tied that vessel off. Used the "clamp and black and decker" spin-off method to remove the testicles. Tied up one hind leg during procedure. Calf has never been a super-bouncy dude, generally laid back and not a feed-chaser-prefers mom and grass. Got him home, he did the expected few hours of moping and acting sore, but nursed and grazed as normal. Today is 4 days later. Have a heifer who is sniffing his remaining bag, he's still moving slowly, sack seems more swollen than I would expect, but no obvious drainage. I had Covid, so can't tell if it smells bad or not (which really sucks). We had two 10 month old calves cut last July, same process. Don't remember this much swelling. If he were banded it would make sense, but he was cut. Normal? Before and after for comparison.

You say the vet tied off one side because of bleeding after the B&D treatment. I think it would be near impossible to accurately locate the major blood vessels to tie them off after the B&D had finished with them. I think at the most a bunch of tissue around the blood may have been tied off in which case there would be bleeding into that tissue forming a bit of a sack and swelling which you are now seeing. Either way should be good just a bit slower healing but watch things just the same and take temp if goes off food.

Just an update-got him in the alley to take a closer look again yesterday, sprayed some alumishield wound coating on him. Looks like he drained overnight, scrotum is smaller, he looks a lot more comfortable. Thanks for the reassurance!
