Ethanol corn question

Bio diesel was a big thing a few years ago but I don't see it anymore. Is it still available?

It became economically non-viable when crude prices started dropping.
I haven't seen anything on BioWillie's bio diesel in several years.

They are making a lot of bio-diesel here in Owensboro Ky. it's made from soy oil, there is a lot of useful by-products that come from the process.

There's a company in Rochester NY that is making Ethanol out of plant cellulose. Their process breaks down the cellulose to extract the C5 and C6 sugars. This "sugar water" is then used to make ethanol and synthetic plastics. They can use sawdust, corn stovers, or switchgrass.

It will not last long. The UofI has been tinkering with this for a number of years and can not make it pan out. They bale and grind miscanthus and other grasses to use.. It does not have enough energy content to make it feasible at current ethanol price.

I know the corn used for ethanol production is different than sweet corn for grocery stores but is it any different than the corn used for livestock feed?

Is there a 'special' type or species that has to be used for ethanol plants?

I am not sure how corn won the energy battle. The list is from worst to best return of energy based on cost to produce. Corn sucks

I knew a dude that had an F-350 , 7.3 hot shot rig, that would go to restaurants and they'd pay him to pump out their used cooking oil from the storage tank. He'd run it through a filter, then into his fuel tanks. The truck ran well on it. Pretty sure it was never straight cooking oil, as he'd put diesel in his tanks as well.
