I have tried several vaccines with mixed results and then decided to keep it simple. I give a Piliguard 7 way with pinkeye booster and a fly tag when I work calves in June. July is usually the start of our pinkeye season.

An suggestions on a better approach?

The only better approach would be if you can find a vaccine formulated for your area with the strains prevalent in your area.

I think one of the major problems with the pinkeye vaccines is that they are only used on the calves or the cows and not the entire herd. Although I grant you in some cases it's due to not covering the strain affecting the herd.

Good point. I did not vaccinate sucking calves for pinkeye last summer and it cost me.
