Want to share an easy technique for applying pour-ons in the pasture. Just finished applying Cylence fly control on 75 yearlings out on pasture. Used a hose-fed automatic ($25) syringe w/o needle as a squirt gun. After putting out a line of feed under a hot wire, made a second pass in the feed truck squirting the pour-on on them out the window as they ate. Took less than 10 minutes to put out the feed and squirt the pour-on. Sure beats having to gather and run thru the chute or spray in corral.

Had quite a few flies before the pour-on and within a few minutes most were gone.

For fewer animals could use a regular syringe. This technique also works with pour-on wormers.

The problem I have with them is the hand strength required. Now I have to pour instead of squirting

I have used the same gun for 3 years. I clean it after each use and just run a little vegtable oil thru it. I do most of my cows in the corral while they are eating cubes. Catch the wild ones as they are run down the chute.
