I'm looking at buying a new (to me) tractor and I'm looking for advice. I would like to stay around $12000 range. I know what some of you are thinking, but that's all I can spend right now. I'm wanting something in the 50-60 hp range, with a loader. Four wheel drive is ok, but not a must. I'm partial to New Holland because of dealer support but I'm not ruling any brand out. Any models you guy/gals could suggest would be great. I'm also curious if you think I should save my money and just buy new, when I can afford it, but I would love to have something before hay season this coming year. Thanks for the help.

If that is what you can afford go for it
you might even be able to get a little larger than 60hp for that money
I knew of a real nice Ford 6610 series three 4wd with loader for $12,500 awhile back it was the last yr they built them
now I am supposing you are talking an open station tractor not a cabbed one
I have even seen some open station TS100s For around $14,000

Thanks for the info guys. What do you think about a Mahindra? After looking around and talking to my uncle (who worked for CaseIH for 12 years and currently works for Cummins) he told me to take a long look at them. He said originally International had alot to do with the engineering of these tractors and the price is hard to beat. Anybody know anything about them?

Off the top of my head: Mahindra bought some Case-IH patterns and dies and made some money on low labor costs. A lot of the world can only afford old technology and Mahindra supplied it.
I think they have some engineers on hire and are doing some original designs. They will be a player in the low-cost market. Time will tell whether they can sell to the high end players.

This site might help:

http://www.tractorhouse.com/

Near the top of the first page click on "detailed search" next to "Farm equipment for sale". You can then search for your area, the type of equipment, make and model, price range, horsepower, etc. The site dun posted is excellent, too. Either will cut down on the time you spend looking. Good luck.

I appreciate the advice. I've looked at both the websites. Haven't found much in NC but I'll keep looking.

I will not own anything but a John Deere. You pay more for them for sure but they hold their value so much better than ANYTHING else its not even funny. I sell John Deere but thats not why I recommend them. Our wholesellers consistantly give thousands more for Deere trade ins over other brands. We have run Deere equipment on our farm since 1938.

If you get an off brand tractor stick with a major line. New Holland or Kubota. Those are the only other ones around here that will keep any value at all.

John I've had one Mahindra 4500 for about 5 years now and can't say anything but good things about it. It does all I ask it to do and more especially for it's size....Here's an article I found about them.

From army vehicles to farm tractors to major automobile manufacturing, Mahindra's relationship with American industry goes back quite a few years. American GIs who served in India during World War II recognize our parent company, Mahindra & Mahindra, which in 1945 was selected to assemble the famous Willys Jeep.

Following Indian independence in 1947, the founders of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) were determined to chart a course of product expansion and globalization. The philosophy led to the company's eventual entrance into the worldwide tractor market.

In 1963, M&M formed a joint venture with International Harvester to manufacture tractors carrying the Mahindra nameplate for the Indian market. Armed with engineering, tooling and manufacturing know-how gained from this relationship, M&M developed its first tractor, the B-275. This successor to International Harvester's incredibly popular IH B-414 is still the basis for some current Mahindra models.

More recently, a joint venture between M&M and Ford Motor Company in 1995 created new opportunities for growth in the world vehicle market. A short time later, the European model of the Ford Escort began rolling off the Mahindra assembly lines. M&M's newest product, one that has burst onto the Indian market, is the Scorpio, a rugged, yet stylish new SUV that received numerous awards as the best new vehicle in India in 2002.
