Found my best cow with what we thought was a foot problem. Maybe foot rot. After locating her and fiinding her down with her two back ankles protruding, her feet looked fine but her ankle was swollen to the degree that it looked twice the size of the other. I hand fed her some cubes and she's real tame. She is in very good shape and mobile but it hurts her to stay with the herd so she is alone most of the time. I thought maybe rattlesnake bite, stepped in a gopher hole, or someone kicked her. Any thoughts? Hate to give a shot unless I am sure that it's an infection and don't know if there are ankle infections?? Help! Thanx in advance!!!

can you touch the swollen ankle? see how hot it feels, and take her temp rectally if you can not. also see if the swelled area is soft . If hot and soft, antibiotics for sure....and look for any entry point (hole, cut, scrape) that started the infection. If it is a snake bite, you may be able to see fang holes somewhere. Good luck !!!!
