Seeking some general info for the Murray Grey cattle breed.

Is there anyone in Ohio, or surrounding states raising this breed? If so, in general, how's it going? Pro's and Con's.
Thinking about possibly switching to something different in the next year or so. Been raising Beefmaster, Limosine, and of course, Angus for the past 20 years. Just have a small operation , but sold way down this year due to the drought, and hay shortage.
Thought it might be interesting to try something different. 8)

The Wozny's at Spectrum Farms (http://www.spectrumfarm.com/) raise Murray Greys in Ohio. I just bought some from them. Of course, OK Jeanne on this forum in OK is an expert and I'm sure will respond to your post as well.

I've started a registered MG herd in Georgia, as I believe their traits of performing well on grass and in hot climates will serve us well.

Hi steerhorn:
Send me a private message with your mailing address and
I will mail you some breed info, newsletters, etc. We just
had a visit from a purchaser from Ohio -- picked up a bred
cow and her heifer calf. I would also suggest that you
contact Herondale farms in New York --- they have some
good breeding stock. (http://www.herondalefarm.com) They are organic and direct market their forage finished beef;
they have Murray Greys as well as Devons so can
give you an evaluation of both breeds.
regards,
OK Jeanne
