milk for calf

Help Support CattleToday:

This ain't no scientific reply by someone exactly knowledge in this - I am thinking about a gallon and a half would be perfect. mostly saying this based on all the bottle calves and grafted calves I have had on nurse cows.

I would say 2 gallons. That is what my pail calves get and they still probably won't grow quite as well as a calf run on a cow.

Forgive me if I'm being too literal here, but wouldn't genetics have a large part in how good that calf is regardless of how much milk the dam produced? Nobody has even touched on that subject yet.
