I have an older john deere rake, where you have to make a pass each direction to make the wind row. I usually go around the field 2 or 3 times and throw the hay in enough to make a place to turn around at each end. Any other methods someone wants to share??

We always used a V rake that was 3 point (4 wheels each side). Started on one end went down and turned around, came back and turned around etc. then after all the windrows were done that way, would go back and clean up the ends. Usually had 2 rows on each end. Depending on how thick the hay was, would make up to 4 passes into a windrow. The old bar rake would only get used in sudan or heavy johnson grass. Would just go round and round until I hit the middle, overlaping to turn the hay completely over.
