Attended a seminar given by a DVM tonight. He lives in the northern part of the state, but from Oklahoma. Really good speaker, and a rancher at that, not just a professor spouting off desk facts. Talked about beef quality assurance.

One thing he said caught my attention. He stated that McDonalds buys 49% of all ground beef produced in the U.S. Has anyone else heard this? This seems enormous.

Also stated that the most recent stoppage of importation of beef by Japan will cost us 10 to 15 cents per pound per calf. That beef inspector who signed off on the shipment that had backbone in it should be strung up!

The other 51% is soy. McDonolds won't release the ingredients of their burgers while most all the other major chains did. It is rumored that McD's burgers contain less beef than ANY of the other major players. ;-)

Yes, McDonalds is the US beef industry's largest single customer. The're on record that their burgers are 100% beef, no fillers or additives, or soy. As far as I know, all the burger chains use foreign beef (New Z'land and Australia) to get the right lean/fat ratio. But I think McDonalds imports less than other chains.

I guess I'm wrong here, but I thought McD's gave up U.S. beef in favor of cheaper Austrailian beef a few years back.

Did they and then switch back? Or did they just talk about it and never do it? Or am I just out of my mind?

Use Google and search. Everything I found said they still used mainly US beef, even though they can get imported beef cheaper.

I attended a beef Producer's meeting this past weekend and one presenter said that 20% the beef McDonald's is buying is traceable back to the birth farm of the animals. They are upping this number every year and hope to achieve 100% tracability within a certain number of years.

I believe Mc Donalds U.K. buy all their beef through the assured beef schemes thus supporting the farmers who have complied with the stringent wefare regulations and not the unpopular cheap imports. We should expect no less from them here!

just a FYI wendy's buy all they beef in usa and they beef is fresh
compared to mcd theres are frozen, thats why they can import most of there beef.

In the future, nothing will be exported or imported out of anywhere to anywhere due to reciprocal trade restrictions. Then everybody ought to be real happy.

No country on Earth can come close to surpassing the U.S. in food production. Foreign trade is good. Punitive trade restrictions are bad. Mcdonalds and Wendys burgers are not so good. Burger King, Hardees, and Dairy Queen burgers are real good. I don't know, and really don't care where the beef comes from. Hey, that is just my opinion and does not(necessarily) reflect the opinion of my affiliates or sponsors. :)

Frankie, recheck their site. Only about 1/2 of the burgers say 100% beef patty. The rest don't say. None of these 5 years ago said 100%. Due to all the publicity they received for not revealing the content of their burgers caused them to do this.

I checked their site, Flaboy. I agree that it is somewhat misleading since some of them say 100% beef patty and some of them just say beef patty. But this was copied from the FAQ's:

"Q. Tell me about the quality of your hamburgers.

A. McDonald's is committed to serving 100% pure beef hamburgers at all of our restaurants around the world. No additives, extenders or fillers are added. (In India, because of cultural preferences, we do not serve beef.) Our highest quality standards, coupled with strictly enforced cooking procedures, help us ensure the quality of our beef and all products wherever our customers visit us."

More about our best customer from BreaktheChain:

"McDonald's buys almost 1 billion pounds of beef from U.S. producers each year-thus making us the largest purchaser of U.S. beef. That's not all. McDonald's also purchases 500 million pounds of chicken each year; 156 million dozen eggs; and 60 million gallons of milk. In no way whatsoever will we ever lessen our dependence on the U.S. farmer."

Spuds just make a good thing better. Meat and potatos what more can you ask for unless its meat and meat. Steak and spuds is better than any burger and bread.
