So my lil dinky steer I thought we lost, is not doing well. He has always been a poor do-er. From a young age, he tended to always have his head down, droopy if u will. Always ate well. Got around good. Always small. Hes 8 months or so now and probly weighs 300. Vet gave him something when we weaned him, after I told him all this. What, idk. I'll assume an antibiotic of some sort. He was banded as well. He actually seemed to get worse from that time. I chalked it up to the banding. They always seem to mope a bit afterwards.
But hes just never grown well. And now that hes home, wouldnt sell anyway, I have him penned with hay and feed and water. This morning he just cannot get up. He tries, bless his lil heart. I took his feed to him and he gobbled it up while laying down. I helped him up and right back down he went. Several times. It's like he has no strength in his rear legs. Fronts seem to work well tho. O! Hes been walking poorly in the rear for quite some time. Since weaning/banding. Like he has a swivel in the middle if that helps.
I just hate to give up on em ya know??
When do ya say when?
I just cannot know if this is the start of the downhill spiral or if he just needs rest.
Should I just cut my losses and do what I must?
Give him some more time?
My only plan for him was hamburger. He really wouldnt be good for much else. Just a sad morning...
