Learning how to raise Black Angus

Help Support CattleToday:

That is probably one of the best ways as well. 3-in-ones from reputable breeder. mamas that are sound and easy to handle will teach you a lot of what there is to know about cattle. herd dispersals are also good sales to find cows that aren't necessarily culls. If you know someone who knows cattle, and you don't--enlist them, beg them, pay them for some help in chosing your stock (if you don't know cattle). Buy QUALITY not QUANTITY--there's all kinds of this breed and that breed to be had, but in the long run--you'll be better off to buy the best you can afford over the most you can get for your $.

Provolone,

Cowgal is known for excellent post and she did it again here.

Just an added thought...Are your plans to raise /feed out beef or do you plan to raise registerd cows for replacement herds..or both?
Assuming you want to do both...a very good bull is the starting point...you need him for both plans. Then add the mothers depending on your goals and herd strategy. If time is available, grow into your objective.....the learning curve can get expensive.
As I have posted before..........."an educaion is expensive ...either in the CLASSROOM or the SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS and while tuition is out of control..the later is almost prohibitive".
Good luck and don't let the...HITS..get you down.
