I'll try to call him and see what he'll do, but isn't there something I can give the bull to help him. I thought there was something that you could put in there feed to make them be more aggressive and breed.

Do they make "viagra" for cows?

My dad and I watched the cows in the pasture this afternoon. we saw him try to breed one and we think that the bull is just too tall for our hereford and angus x cows.

Horsefeathers on being to tall the bull needs to be tested and as AZ stated a few cows also, could have a neospora problem causes early abortions. God forbid if they have bangs are your cattle vacinated for bangs.

I agree with most of the other posters, get him checked ASAP. It doesn't cost that much and the piece of mind is worth it. Campground is right, a bad bull can wipe out a whole year of income.

When we buy a bull ( always guaranteed to be sound ) we stop at our vet on the way home and have him tested. If he passes we take him home, if he doesn't, he goes back to where we bought him.

This thread seemed like a good place to ask this.

I've seen young (12-18 mo) bulls turned out on large cows that I would have sworn the bull couldn't do the job on without standing on a bucket or something. Yet somehow he got the job done. How does this happen? Does he wait for the cow to lay down?

A neighbor has a Holstein bull that's too small to breed his Brown Swiss, but his young and much smaller Angus bull doesn't have a problem. I think a lot has to do with athleticism and desire.

Part of the BSE the vet did on our new bull included a measurement for "extension beyond sheath". Maybe size does matter! :)

His height is NOT the problem. Take him back to where you got him.

My dad is calling the guy tomorrow. Thanks for all the help. I don't know what I'd do without y'all's help ;-)
