Actor-singer Kenny Rogers, the smooth, Grammy-winning balladeer who spanned jazz, folk, country and pop with such hits as "Lucille," "Lady" and "Islands in the Stream" and embraced his persona as "The Gambler" on record and on TV died Friday night. He was 81.

RIP as he was one of my favorites, especially a few years ago.

You gotta know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em

A sad moment that will come to all of us. Loved his music.

May he be safe in God's arms.

Best to all

Definitely one of the legends. Always loved islands in the stream. Surprised when i found out it was written by the bee gees.

Barry Gibbs was producing a Album for him, and gave him the song..I read were Dolly was then added as a afterthought on it..to me,,it's one of those songs you really don't like a lot but get stuck in your head anyway :cowboy:

Every time I think of Kenny Rogers I remember Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town.

I was at a college rodeo in Bozeman Montana in the spring of 1971. A saddle bronc rider team mate of mine had the hot for a girl named Ruby. He kept singing that song over and over. Sticks in my mind.

RIP Kenny

Saw him this spring in Carthage as he was inducted in Texas country music hall of fame ,great show as our own Linda Davis sang Dotty West parts,;only parts I did not like was when-he referral to Kent state ; he was not in the military and did not understand what thousands of us were going thorough at that time in the paddies; all he had to do was sing while we prayed we would see tomorrow; God bless America and see her through her troubled times simper fi

What do you mean about Kent State? I'm a fan, of Kenny Rogers music, so maybe it's something I should know, but I don't.
