Early planning now, might decide to winter some cows near a pond on one of my leases because it would be a good wintering area, lots of cover and no mud. And if so I may haul some rolls over there this week since I am baling near there. Problem is, any tricks to keep pond water open. I have alot of experience breaking ice in the winter as my home wintering area relies on swamp and pond water. Just don't want to do a wintering area over there if I can't keep water open, I don't want to have to rely on being there every single day to break water. Alot of times we may have a good freeze and no snow. Keep in mind I am in Michigan, not Texas, Thanks.

I used a pond mill last winter. It works really well as long as you have a little wind.

There are the wind deals, also pond bubblers that use I think propane. An uncle in WI used the wind stirring kind of deals, it was kind of neat seeing the ice frozen in the form of waves.
