I bought a few feed bunks to feed some supplemental grain in last winter.I had problems with some cows jumping up into the feeders with their front feet.
This winter some weaned calves I'm backgrounding started doing the same thing.Since I had a hot wire nearby,I drove a steel post at the end of the troughs and stretched a wire over the middle high enough they can eat comfortably but will get hit if they jump up.I think the wire itself discourages them but I have heard it pop a few time, too. No more calves in the bunk.
