Not the newest ones. This was a reg angus I bought last year. She rejected her calf a month ago so she was on the cull list. Should've hauled her last week apparently. This one of the new registered cows?
He's almost certain it's anaplasmosis. Going to get mineral with ctc tomorrow morning and hope she's an isolated case.Oh no… so sorry. Do you plan on doing any sort of necropsy? Or can your vet perform one?

I've dodged the bullet for years. Neighbor lost 4-5 last year so nothing but the high dollar mineral for us through summer.

Wow super sorry to hear that you're dealing with a case of it. Bummer. Hope it's an isolated case like you stated. Not the newest ones. This was a reg angus I bought last year. She rejected her calf a month ago so she was on the cull list. Should've hauled her last week apparently.

I don't know what BFE is suggesting with the photo but the exposed skin in the ear looks jaundiced to me which would go with Anaplasmosis. Did the vet suggest taking a thin blood smear from her which should show Anaplasma marginale if that is the culprit.Chlortetracycline (CTC) is used to control anaplasmosis and bacterial pneumonia.
Is BFE pointing at a tick in the photograph?
No, holding the ear back for the photograph.Chlortetracycline (CTC) is used to control anaplasmosis and bacterial pneumonia.

The mineral with ctc is considerably more expensive than without.A blood disease spread by ticks. Does better minerals prevent it?
Not sure about you guys, but we went from 60's to 4 record breaking days in the 90's. We skipped May and June. July is here.We generally don't have to worry about anaplas until July, it's rearing it's ugly little head early this year.
I don't think we broke records but we're in the 90's. It's a little cooler out this morning though. Not sure about you guys, but we went from 60's to 4 record breaking days in the 90's. We skipped May and June. July is here.
BFE, I am also in SE Illinois, far NW Crawford County. Where are you compared to me. I obviously don't want what you have. ThanksView attachment 16603
Nothing apparently wrong yesterday. Didn't come up this morning and got agitated when I found her. Called the vet to discuss and rechecked her late morning. Was stone cold dead by three.

That's the neurological part. If you see a normally docile cow suddenly turn aggressive, that's another clue.Anaplaz makes them be on the fight, too, for some reason. It was not a fun time. Glad we never experienced that again.
