I Hate A Thief!

My 16 foot bumper pull trailer went missing over the weekend.

Most handy piece of equipment I have. :mad:

Sheriff came out, made a report. Told me I'd never see it again.

If I don't post on here for a few weeks, months or years, you'll know I have found it and the person who stole it. Please send me a cigar to the Montgomery County, Al jail if you can spare one.

Yep, someone broke into my public storage unit. Stole my Roohide saddle and chinks. Plus all my brand new bits, headstalls and reins. Even took a pair of my Rios ostrich boots.

Had that happens years ago here. I left for about an hour, came back and it was gone. Something told me to lock the gate but I didn't. For a while there I looked at every trailer that I passed trying to find ours. No luck.

Since then we have automatic gates and a guard dog.

I hate a thief also. Dont know what they are thinking. I wouldn't think God is going to let a bunch of them in as they will be pulling up the streets of gold.

I remember a story from a few years back where a lot of trailers where being stolen. All where bought brand new, and within a month of purchase they were stolen. Well the finally caught the guys. The folks selling the trailers were stealing the trailers, and then re-painting them and re-selling them. Always makes me think about the information we have to give out when purchasing something significant.

MikeC, sorry for your loss. Hopefully it will come up, and you won't have to visit the Montgomery County Jail.

I feel for you Mike! I honestly think that I could kill somebody for taking things that I've worked hard to get. Over the years I've lost a 16' flatbed, a generator, a fertilizer spreader, a bushhog, PTO posthole digger, a PTO tiller, a .22 Winchester, and a computer. Killin' is TOO good for a thief!

Same here! I had a 16 ft trailer stolen about 7 years ago. To this day I still look at every trailer I come up on. I had the rear of the trailer dove tailed (think that is what it is called) so I could pull a race car on it with out rubbing. When the welder did it he did not change the brackets that hold the lights on so they then pointed down towards ground instead of straight out.

If I see it I will know it even if they painted it.

The sad thing is that it was probably someone you know or their kid that did it. The area in which I live had a huge theft ring goin a few years back and it all went to finance one thing : Meth. There where Tractors, pickups,trailers,welders,and even cattle stolen by this well orginized group. I think the price tag on their exploits was well over a million dollars. I know thats why theres always a loaded weapon within my reach, at home or not. I wont hesitate to shoot even someone I know if I catch them in the act.

Someone stole a service truck and trailer full of equipment from my husband's work. Total damage, about 70 grand. They are going to install that global positioning stuff on the next equipment they get. Brand new truck, too. I am sure that thieves will figure out how to get around the onstar thing, but for now, it seems to be the best prevention.

Trailer thieves have been in high gear around here too Mike. A detective with our Sheriff's dept. told me that at least 8 a month are being reported, and yes, most are 16 footers.Aint much worse than a Thief.

I friend of ours that has a place north of Houston had his GN stolen. The bad part was they loaded up his tractor and brand new 4-wheeler he just bought the week before on the trailer when they stole it. Never has recovered any of it.

Just in the past week we've had rock stolen out of our front yard that we are using to rock our house. Enough gone to make a dent in the pile! That really burns me up!

I've been hit over and over. Had two guys break into my sea-land container and take a bunch of tools. They pawned them. There were the tools with my name etched in them at the pawn shop. Had the guy's name on the pawn ticket too. Hood County District Attorney sent the case back to the sheriff's dept several times and finally wanted the clerk at the pawn shop to pick the guys out of a line up! And he did pick one of them out, nearly a year later after all the case rejections. Then the D.A. kicked out the case because there was a date discrepancy since one of the clerks accidentally put the wrong date on one of the pawn tickets.

Having our Hood County, TX D.A. is worse than having thieves.

Alright fellers (and ladies) we need to start helping each other with this thievery thing - it happens here at times but this ain't exactly big time farm country - my dad did lose a tool box and some weedeaters off his place last month.
We need to post pictures- when available- and descriptions so that we can keep an eye out for this stuff. Seems like every area has a free classified ads paper that we could all look through and these consignment auctions that pop up in the spring.
And a little bit of advice - TAKE SOME PICTURES of your stuff, write down serial numbers, and lock them gates!

Take the time to lay a bead(weld) your brand,name,logo BIG and bold and visiable..Both sides and the back..It'll at least slow them down..

You are exactly right!

The first thing to do, is ensure ANYTHING we buy used, is not stolen. Meth heads are looking for a fix. If they can't sell it, they'll quit taking it. It is guaranteed that they don't plan on using the tools they are taking.

If I know the person selling something I want, I'll buy it. If I don't know them, it is probably best not to buy it. Otherwise they'll probably be looking to steal it back, and sell it again.

Exactly BHB the other thing to remember if it is to good of a deal and your gut tells you that no way should it be this cheap, chances are it is stolen.If there was no one to buy the stolen goods there would be no market for the thieves.The problem with stealing trailers is that they are the necessary step to stealing other things.You always need something to haul the goods.I hate a theif there is no excuse in the world why "you" should be entitled to something that I have worked my but off to attain,But I also hate those that knowingly buy stolen goods they are probably worse than a thief.

Maybe we ought to chain up the trailers, 4 wheelers, etc. I think you can buy super hardened locks/chains. That would at least discourage the "hit and run" types. It also helps for neighbors to look out for each other.

I do my best to keep the opportunistic types at bay. I chain and lock my gates, take the keys to the house. If a professional wants me, I'm toast.

I can relate. When they hit the container, I wanted to know what the heck they used to get through the locks and chains. I never found the locks and chains. I assure you, it wasn't big bolt cutters. They took the chains and locks with them. No M.O.
