I-69 Trans Texas Corridor

I was wondering if there was anyone else on these boards that these proposed corridors were going to wipe out? Our farm and house plus my MIL's house are all in the "proposed" route. We're going to the town hall meeting tomorrow night in Hempstead, don't know what is going to be discussed but we'll be there. :cry2:

I didn't know that we had been told the proposed route. During the gov. race, Mr. Perry managed to keep it a secret. I have just heard it was cutting off West, Abbot and Hillsboro, meaning far less commercial traffic on 35. And cutting through some of the best agricultural land in the state. Not to mention impact on homes and farms, like your's.

Don't blame me. I didn't vote for the SOB. And in case anyone is wondering, that is a political statement.

I should say not. At a half mile in width and 12 lanes, nothing is going to sleep soundly. And if you can't access your property during the construction, at least here in Texas, you won't be reimbursed for your losses of crops or for the use of your land.

I say it's a crock and if everyone knew exactly what is going to happen, there would be a popular uprising. That is why no one really knows.

I don't believe in conspiracies, but this comes dang close in my opinion. If this doesn't fit the definition, I don't know what does. :mad:

I sure hate to hear things like this. They are annexing land north of the city next year and our friends are going too lose their homestead. They just celebrated 117 years this past summer. That doesn't seem much to you folks but for Alberta that is a long time.

I am so sorry to hear of your upcoming loss. There have been four major highways that have destroyed farmland/homesteads in our state. Heartbreaking.

In Texas it has been all but kept a secret until recently. A contractor from Spain is supposed to build the corridor here. Spain? Could we not find an American contractor at least?

117 years is a long time, HD, and I hate it for everyone that farms like this are becoming endangered.

Lammie that is a great way to word it, as they are exactly like an endangered species; once they are gone you can never get them back.
People just don't seem to get that.
I am all for progress but let's not forget what/who built our countries in the first place and who really puts food on their tables. It "ain't" the grocery stores.

I've been reading any thing I can on this. But from what I can tell....every thing is PROPOSED....and the maps/information I see on the trans/corridor site, show a proposed route that is very wide....so I can't tell exactly where this thing is going.

Does anyone have specifics?

I contacted my congressmen and only one responded. He was concerned even though it doesn't affect out state.
Scarey thought, drivers and trucks from Mexico do not need to be inspected for safety nor have a CDL.

I have a hard time believing that....

We have a new highway bypass near us. An exit ramp took out my hubby's grandparents original homestead. It's hard to see that's for sure. The DOT had a lot of bargaining with some farmers in the area. Cost a lot of $$$ to relocate or buy them out. I really like driving on the bypass, it's easier and safer. Down side of course is all the ground taken out of production.

I thought there had been some legislation passed to temporarily prohibit any new construction of toll roads, and because of that the contractor on the corridor is considering pulling out of the deal???? I could be wrong. The issue has really lost a lot of steam here lately.

The route is supposed to be narrowed down to a 4 mile wide swath at this time. We are in the Yellow section of every map I can find, the best I can tell - as they are not very detailed - I'm sure the detail was left out on purpose. That is part of the reason I'm going to the town meeting tonight - to see if there is any more new info.

If you do some digging on the net you can find a lot of info. One statement that really chaps my hide is that people are complaining that taking away all this land is going to cut into the county taxes, ect and cause the tax rates to be raised. The reply from the TTC commision is that they are trying to stay away from businesses and commercial land that bring in a lot of tax revenue and they are concentrating on using under-developed agracultural exempt land that doesn't bring a lot of tax revenue :mad:

The farm has been in my husbands family for 3 generations, but that's not even the point. Every one of us has worked and worked to get it the way it is now. I can't even begin to imagine all the sweat equity has gone into the place, and for what? If a super highway runs through it they don't care what care has been put into the land. We've personally spent the last 2 years setting up a rotational system and building thousands of feet of fence. :frowns: Sorry for the rant, it's just the thought of what would we do if we didn't have the land and cows? I don't want to start over from scratch, and the truth of the matter is land is so expensive now I don't think we could start over :cry2:

It's all been decided-the meetings are to make you think you can do something--you can't- too much money going into too many high placed pockets-- We've ALL been sold out-- Think about it-ALL our food,fuel,clothing comes from somewhere else,and when they stop sending it,we're in a world of hurt.. It will happen I'm sure, just a matter of time and a lot of red tape. We also deal with it here in the Waco area, as the proposed route is south of here. My last understanding was it had been "narrowed" down to a 10 acre strip, but like you, I haven't found a detailed map that you could really see the detail accurately.

I agree that it's a bad thing to have to face if you're in it's path. You will be compensated, and for more than market value, but I realize if you are not willing to sell, the price won't matter.

Everyone complains about stuff like this.. new roadways, subdivisions, industry, taking up farm and ranch land. But on the flip side, with all the PEOPLE here, what's to be done? Has anyone driven in Austin lately? Dallas? The traffic is horrendous, and only going to get worse every year, as more and more people have to drive places.

There isn't a good solution for stuff like this. It's progress, and progress has to be made to facilitate the world as it changes.
