How long to get herd you wanted?

Help Support CattleToday:

The total quality of my herd actually declined this year. But is was on purpose. I had a new place to run some cows so I added to the herd. Mostly what I bought were cheaper medium bred, mid aged cows. These work best for me because you don't lose so much when you make a mistake. A lot of these are solid cows that raised a nice calf and have been asked to join the herd.

I bought 4 brangus baldie cows at a dspersal. They were bred to Charolais. They had nice calves that outgrew anything I have ever owned. It made me realize how good some bulls are compared to mine.

My core group of cows has been evolving for about 15 years. Its a motley crew of solid cows of all ages, nothing special. Bred to straight Angus.
