I have 2- 500 pound calves that a person wants to buy from me for his kids as a 4H project. I am trying to figure out what a "fair" price to ask is. Here's my local sale report, what class would my calves fall in? One is a steer, black baldie and one is a heifer, solid black. I guess I don't know if they would be considered "feeder" or "fed" My guess is "feeder", plus the price is better. :D Thanks!

Commercial Bulls: (Hvy. Wt.) $120.00 to $141.00
Commercial Cows: (Core) $105.00 to $120.00

Fed Colored Steers: (High Choice) $150.00 to $163.00
Fed Colored Heifers: (High Choice) $150.00 to $160.00
Fed Holsteins: (No Choice) $114.00 to $120.00

Feeder Steers: (Core) $170.00 to $290.00
Feeder Heifers: (Fancy) $150.00 to $190.00
Feeder Bulls: (Core) $150.00 to $200.00

Calves: (Core) $250.00 to $355.00
Sheep: to $120.00

since its 4h kids id prolly sell them the calves for $1.25lb.yes i know youd be loosing about $125 a hd.but your helping kids get their project calves.

With no weights listed I don't have a clue. Feeder would be right but that's a heck of a spread without know what weight sold for what.

if it were me I would be in the 600 to 750 range. I know you could get more for it at the sale but its 4H and not that long ago everyone was jumping up and down happy with getting 600 to 750 for a calf. You still make money and the kids arnt broke buying it.

Assuming the calves are weaned, bunk broke and vaccinated $1000 per head would not be unreasonable. You are still giving them a big break. The following is the USDA market report for St. Joe. It is probably the lightest run of the year:

Note that steers heavier than yours are selling well over $200/cwt.
