Here in Va we have had a record year for rain 36" since jan 1st, there is so much hay locals farmers are selling good 1st cut hay for $15-20 roll 4 x 5 rolls. You can't hardly even bale it for that. Biggest problem we are having is getting it up. Rains everyday we might as well live in Seattle, but still much better than a drought!
Same here, I can buy all I want for $15 for 4X5. Good hay not junk. Way more hay than there is cattle to eat it. I bet by spring I will buy it for $10.
My guess is before long at those prices someone will be finding a way to get it somewhere it is worth more. Even if some genius just breaks even after hauling it, they will be trying it just thinking it will work.

"Alfalfa hay" is being advertised for $200 to $250 per ton. Sounds like it it higher priced in southern MN.
"Grassy upland hay" is being advertised for $100 per ton. Sounds like it is higher priced in southern MN.

I'm getting 35.00 for good quality mixed grass, and 35.00 for milo, my good Vaughn Bermuda is 40.00, I'm using a broker for my milo and I think he make 5.00 a bale

It's coming down a little, but we are still 50-75 dollars a ton higher than you. To many dairies are in need in this area. To much winter kill as well. Some are just starting second crop here.

What would really help is if they would release all the acres turned in for preventive planting in this area. There's still a little time to put a cover crop in that could be baled or chopped, if you could find the seed. Lots of talk about it being released earlier this year, but it doesn't sound likely now. Can't do anything with it until Nov. 1 the way it stands now.

Can't speak for some, but I think hay producers are gonna catch it in the neck here in se texas. Timely rains and a whole lot fewer cattle to feed.

I think most around here got the lst cutting....grasshoppers got the 2nd.

I see alfalfa for $230-280 a ton, oat hay for $180, and grass hay for $130. All of that is FOB the farm. The eastside orchard grass or timothy that the horse people buy is in the $250 range. I bought 200 4 by 5 bales for $35 a bale. I weighed one load of 11 bales and they averaged 705 pounds per bale. Works out to $99.29 a ton plus hauling cost. I hauled them home about 5 miles one way.
