Growing meat without growing animals?

Weird article I "happened" upon today... about PETA offering up money ($1M) to the first person or company who can grow meat without growing an animal and have it be capable of being produced and sold to consumers...

I was reading this the other day. I tried to send it to a friend and it came out in about seventeen different attachments. Who knows what I did other than screw up his computer trying to get it opened.

think of it as a bacteria culture in a petri dish, just using muscle cells, it is highly possible, but don't think i'd want to eat it, something about stuff grown in a petri dish that turns my stomach

actually the cost would be minimal, petri dish... you don't have to grain feed it, no slaughter cost... replication of cells cost nothing. cheap cheap cheap food source

A million bucks is peanut offering....if they were serious it would be a billion....Actually it would feed the people who can't afford to eat.....but then that would contribute to the ever exploding population so its a NO GO as far as I see it....
