Gelbvieh

I have just had delivered a Gelbvieh Bull, I was looking for something to put on a bunch of Belgium Blue X Fresian Heifers and was impressed by the look of this animal in the market. I know nothing about the breed but took a chance, does anyone have any experience of this type of cross and the prodgeny, I ususally keep steer calves to finish as Bulls on barley and do the Heifer calves at grass, finishing on home grown rolled cereals for the last couple of months. If anyone with experience of the Gelbvieh would like to offer advice I would be grateful. I am in the UK.

Hello Pat,

I've never seen a Gelbvieh/Blue/Fresian cross (Blues are not real common in North America). However, I can tell you that in general Gelbvieh cattle have great dispositions, grow well, and the females make great mothers. They also produce a lean carcass which will really be accented by crossing with Belgian Blue.

Good luck!
