SCFarms. just thank God and your lucky stars that you and your brangus calfs dont live about 150 miles east and that your not still tredding water or a lot worse. besides if you want to go showing your calfs all over the country side then all you gotta do is find your most sorry looking old cow and sell her . to hear you tell it you would get $1500 easy for her. prolly get even a lot more then 1500 since your cows got all that big name blood runnin threw there vanes right? then you could by all the gas you need and still have mony left over to make a nice gift to the red cross to help the people that have a real problem dont you think?

Ok mr. TUCO I will listen to your adivise. You can get $1500 a cow down here trust me I sold a sorry one for that.

$2.75 regular up here today...News was showing a station in Atlanta that was charging $5.87 for regular- over $6.00 for premium since they are running out....And they were saying that this could spread-as the east coast and south runs out you will see prices above $4.00....

We're not running out. This was a show of public hysteria and true price gouging. The Governor of GA declared a State of Emergency on fuel prices which is suppose to freeze them. This came about by wide spread misinformation on the news, Internet and the telephone which probably started from the news of the Colonial pipe line having reduced or no flow because of the power outage problems in Mississippi. Colonial will restore flow by this weekend and we also get fuel through Savannah.

Ive had several people tell me that on Sept 10 that no one is to buy gasoline. People are working together to boycott the high prices. Supposedly this is also on the internet.

Do you know if there is a site, or just email passing around?

In town regular unleaded is $2.82, good stuff is $3.00, and diesel is $2.77.

Friend filled up his truck, next morning found that the tank had been drained.

I now have to give up driving my truck to hitch a ride or take the bus. My truck will be headed to the farm and I won't get to drive it at all anymore. I'll have to use my dad's truck if I need a vehicle... :(

You are right everyone needs to calm down we have a National emergency right now a large part of out infrastructure is damaged that was all ready strained. The Colonial pipeline is the artery from gulf coast refineries to the east markets.
All this hollering sounds like a bunch of spoiled kids, this is not the first time in our nations history there have beeen gasoline shortages. We have fellow Americans dying right now. A lot of you are seeing for the first time what a Cat5 like Carla,Camile and Katrina can do to people of the Gulf Coast.

i agree, theres no point in complaining about it, its going to get worse. take advantage of the price you have right now though. step up, conserve, get innovative, things could be a lot worse and are for some folks! and will be for a long time.

No wonder our enimies look at us with digust the richest most wasteful nation every. Get a huge diaster and Americans are lining up to whine and cry that they are suffering in the pocket book plumb pitiful.
Man what would this generation have done in 1941 when we had fuel food and clothing rationing. We all would probablly be speaking Japanese right now.

Wonder how many remember the gas rationing back in the 70's
or was it the late 60's...was in eastern N.C. at the time and remember having to wait in line to pay over a dollar a gallon in town. Dave Mc

Sorry guys, but some of us do not remember there ever being a shortage on gas. It is hard not to complain about something like this. I have seen it for years go up and down, but never like this. It gets hard when you are one of those people who have to drive round trip to work 1 and 1/2 hours. This is just how much Thomas drives not both of us. I just do not see how things are going to work out for us. We spend 540 dallors in gas in one month and this was when gas was 1.79 a gallon. To us this is a lot of money, it might not be for some of you, but for someone who has struggled to get aheard in life for years it has hit us hard. I know it is only going to get worse. I wished there was something we could do to lower the prices, because if we don't there will be some good cattle for sale in Coweta Oklahomaa and i am not joking. I is easy to say just quit driving, but when you are driving to work now that is a different story, because we just don't drive anywhere else.

I think that there are very few people that it isn;t hard on. The rich folks aren;t bothered, but the average joe is hurting pretty badly. Al that can be done is the best that you can do and do what you need to. I wasn;t real happy when I wrecked my old truck but the new one gets 50% better fuel mileage so I guess it worked out less badly then it could have.

In My home town they have started to ration out farm diesel. People this will kill our town I live in a very rural community. 95% of our income comes from farming. Peanuts and cotton are getting ready to be harvested. How are the producers going to do this? I know, the old way before we had all the fancy equipment that we have today. that steal doesnt help to get the product to the shelling plant or to the gins. then how do we distirbute the goods when fuel is this high. My town now is going to be a ghost town.

I've got a quick question for you Camp, or anyone else I guess.

Let's put Katrina on the back burner for a second and talk about gas prices in general. Would the use of the 10% ethanol blend fuels help the refining industry to catch up at all? This is probably wrong, but I think alot of common people think that if 10% of every gallon of gas is made from corn, it should take 10% of the burden off of the petroleum fuel refineries. Is this true? Or does the ethanol have to be incorporated during the refining process?

I usually use the ethanol blend anyway because in my vehicle the higher price of ethanol blended fuels, is offset by the extra mileage I get out of each tank. Plus I see it as an opportunity to help out my fellow farmers. I realize that Joe Blow does not understand that with higher octane comes better fuel mileage. He only knows that the ethanol blend is 5-7 cents higher, and it is cheaper to run regular unleaded.

You chose to live an 1 1/2 from work as I chose to live 2 1/2 hours bitter pill to swallow, how is your house, family, ac working seems you are little hypocritical here.

Putzo I am probablly wrong on all this but I will give to you from my prospective.
The problem right know is out infrastucture has a big ding in it. We have not been shown one picture of southern La where some of the nations refineries are. We have not seen one picture of the LOOP that supplies a major portion of the midwest refineries. The pipeline system that supplies the east coast is crippled. Also price regulations are effecting you even more now. Valero is a major refiner in the US they buy all there crude, Exxon owns lots of oil and refining they can not charge less than Valero but by 7 cents. This varies from state to state. So if Exxon could sell gas at 2 dollars a gallon right now they can't by law. The law's were put in to keep the big boys from running over the little boys.
Even if every major oil refiner was at 100% capacity we can't move gasoline east very easily right now. We were all ready short of refining capacity to meet EPA regulations that's why the EPA removed the restrictions and we can make 3 grades now instead of 100's of different grades. This has meant an increase of more than 84,000 gallons out of one refinery I know of.

I've been watching this thread pretty closely, and my take on the whole thing is that it's a hodge-podge of most of the reasons that have already been stated. JMO.

Yes grain fuels do help they are just not cheaper and you have to have the same infrastucture to move them.

Why would ethanol not be cheaper? $1.69 a gallon picked up at the plant, I service equipment at one plant in my area and that is their price loaded into a tanker.
